How we edited each one

Websites & Conversion

How we edited it

The original describes the company. The edit describes the reader's Tuesday.

  • Cut the greeting. Visitors know where they are.
  • Replaced "leading provider of innovative solutions" with the problem the reader already has.
  • One promise, then one concrete picture of the product.

Before (deleted text)

Welcome to our platform. We are a leading provider of innovative, end-to-end workflow solutions that empower modern teams to unlock their full potential.

After (inserted text)

Stop chasing approvals in email. Send every request through one queue, and see who is holding it up.

How we edited it

A list of features is not an argument. The edit answers doubts in the order the reader has them.

  • Opened with the objection ("I'm not an accountant") instead of a feature list.
  • Turned "everything you need to know" into a specific, finite promise.
  • Moved the bonuses into the second objection, where they answer a worry.

Before (deleted text)

Our course covers everything you need to know about bookkeeping. Sign up today and get lifetime access, bonus templates and a private community. Don't miss out!

After (inserted text)

You do not need to become an accountant. You need to close your books by the 10th of every month. The course is six lessons, about 20 minutes each, built around that one routine. If you are worried you will fall behind: every lesson is recorded, the templates are included, and access does not expire.

How we edited it

The spec sheet is for the supplier. The product page is for the person with a bag to pack.

  • Kept every spec, moved them behind a benefit the buyer can picture.
  • Answered the two worries on a bottle page: leaks and taste.
  • Specs end the description, for the buyer who skims for them.

Bottle. 750ml. 18/8 stainless steel. Double wall vacuum insulated. BPA free. Leakproof lid. Colour: matte black. Weight 380g.

After (inserted text)

A 750 ml steel bottle that keeps cold drinks cold through the afternoon and hot ones hot through the second meeting. The lid stays shut in a bag. The steel adds no taste. 380 g, matte black.

Content & SEO

How we edited it

The reader asked a question. The edit answers it before the second sentence.

  • Cut the opening about "today's fast-paced world". No reader has ever needed it.
  • Put the answer in the first sentence, and let the rest of the article earn the scroll.
  • The last sentence tells the reader what is left, so they can decide whether to keep reading.

Before (deleted text)

In today's fast-paced world, more people than ever are working from home. As a result, standing desks have become increasingly popular. In this article, we will explore what a standing desk is and look at some tips for setting one up.

After (inserted text)

Set the desk so your elbows bend at about 90 degrees when your hands are on the keyboard. Then raise the monitor until the top of the screen is level with your eyes. Those two adjustments fix most standing-desk pain. The rest of this guide covers the other three and what to do if it still hurts.

How we edited it

One email, one job. The story can wait until the reader has done something.

  • Subject line gives a date and a task. "Welcome to the family" gives nothing.
  • The first line is the promise. The company story moves to email 3.
  • Email 1 has one job: get one click.

Before (deleted text)

Subject: Welcome to the family!

Hi there! We are so thrilled you have joined us. Let us tell you a little bit about who we are. Founded by a passionate team of coffee lovers, we believe that great coffee should be accessible to everyone...

After (inserted text)

Subject: Your first bag ships Thursday. Do this before then.

Your first bag ships Thursday. Before it arrives, tell us how you make coffee (it takes 20 seconds) so we can pick the right grind. Pick your brew method: Espresso · Filter · French press · Not sure

How we edited it

We bring the structure. You bring the facts. If the fact is not there, the line is not either.

  • Raw notes become three headings a buyer can scan in ten seconds.
  • Where a figure goes, we write who supplies it. We never invent one.
  • Quotes only come from the interview, and only with the customer's approval.

Before (deleted text)

Spoke to owner. Busy in summer, quiet in winter. Tried ads, no luck. Switched booking system. Staff happier? Bookings up in the end. Wants to mention the new website.

After (inserted text)

Challenge: Winter bookings fell off every year, and ads had not fixed it.

Approach: A new booking system, so customers could book at any hour.

Result: (the client's own booking figure for the period, supplied by the client).

Quote: (a line from the interview, approved by the customer).

Brand & Campaigns

How we edited it

A value is a wish. A rule is something a new writer can follow on day one.

  • A value no one can disagree with cannot guide a decision. A rule can.
  • Added a say-this and not-that pair so any writer can apply it on the first try.
  • Each rule in the guide follows this shape.

See the Brand Messaging page

Specimen: illustrative rewrite · Voice guide, one rule

Before (deleted text)

We value innovation, integrity and excellence in everything we do.

After (inserted text)

Rule: Be specific about money.

Say: "The audit is $450 and takes three days."

Not: "We offer affordable, flexible options."

How we edited it

One headline is a guess. Five are a test.

  • Five angles from one product: location, inbox, effort, speed, reminders.
  • Each line is under 40 characters, so it fits a headline slot on every platform.
  • You pick the winners with a test. We never claim which one will win.

Before (deleted text)

Take your business to the next level with our powerful invoicing software.

After (inserted text)

  1. Send the invoice before you leave the car park.
  2. Invoices that find their way to the top of the inbox.
  3. Stop chasing. Start invoicing from your phone.
  4. Your invoice, sent in under a minute.
  5. Late payers, meet a reminder that never forgets.
